CARE OF YOUR KARGES FURNITURE

Karges Furniture uses the tried and true finishing method of nitrocellulose lacquers as a final top coat. This could be high sheen lacquer that has been hand-rubbed to a high, medium or low gloss, or could also be a flat lacquer as is used over many paint finishes. Regardless of the final “sheen” (or shine) of your furniture, our recommended care is the same.

A slightly damp soft cloth is optimal for regular dusting and cleaning. Cotton diapers, terry toweling, flannel, or cheesecloth do the best job. Furniture polish should be used sparingly and infrequently (not more than every one or two months). Remember, the purpose of furniture polish is only to provide a slight additional barrier between your furniture and the elements; the lacquer coating is the most important barrier and will durably protect the surface for many years. We recommend Guardsman polish but any other cream emulsion type polish will work. Commercial polishes, however, are not recommended as they contain silicones which, after repeated use, migrate into the finish and can cause problems in years to come.

Our preferred method of polishing is to spray or otherwise apply a small amount of polish onto a soft, dry cloth (not directly onto the furniture), then wipe gently to evenly distribute polish over the surface. Buff gently to original sheen.
